Queen Adelaide’s Hill in the Lake District is named after Queen Adelaide, the aunt of Queen Victoria, who visited the hill in 1840. The hill was originally called Rayrigg Bank.
Queen Adelaide’s Hill is a scenic viewpoint with panoramic views of Windermere and the surrounding fells. You can see Belle Isle and yachts in Bowness Bay to the south, and the Langdale Pikes to the northwest.

Starting Point: Windermere Village

Step 1: Woodland Stroll

From the start point, after wandering down the road, you will head through some beautiful woodland. The path follows a stream and the sound of nature surrounds you in the dappled sunlight.

Step 2: Shore Walk

After navigating the busy Rayrigg Road, walk across meadows to reach the Windermere Shore. Here the walk follows a woodland shore path with views across the Lake.

If you fancy taking a dip, make sure you’re careful as the water can be extremely cold!
